Listening to 'Alegerea' was an emotional rollercoaster. Hărnuț's narration is nothing short of outstanding, her voice shifting seamlessly between Eger's youthful defiance and her later wisdom. The pacing is excellent, building tension and releasing it with expert timing. However, the audiobook could have benefited from more context on the historical background of the Holocaust. Despite this, Eger's story is so compelling that it's easy to overlook this minor shortcoming. This is not a light listen, but it's an incredibly powerful one that will stay with you long after the final words.
