The love scenes between Snow and Veiko are electric, charged with a tension that never veers into melodrama. The production quality is top-tier, with subtle sound design that immerses you in the gritty streets of Illharek or the eerie quiet of the rebel camps without ever distracting from the story. That said, the novel stumbles in its worldbuilding. The rapid-fire introductions of factions and gods leave you playing catch-up, and some of the political maneuvering feels under-explained until long after it counts. The payoff is worth it, but it’s a bumpy ride to get there. The ending is abrupt, almost jarringly so, leaving me craving a little more resolution for the characters I’d grown attached to.
