He also nails the supporting cast, particularly the foppish yet kind-hearted Lord Crispin and the fiery, morally ambiguous Lady Isolde, whose accents and cadences add layers of richness to the worldbuilding. The production itself is crisp and unobtrusive, letting Leigh’s prose shine without echoey distractions. That said, the middle act drags slightly as subplots meander, and the resolution, while satisfying, arrives with a bit more neatness than the story’s jagged emotional arcs deserved. Still, Draper’s performance elevates this from good to unforgettable, and Leigh’s clever juxtaposition of beauty and brokenness lingers long after the final chapter.
