That said, the middle act drags slightly during the political intrigue sections—Heyer’s strength is character, not courtly maneuvering, and Addis’s narration can’t quite salvage the denser exposition. The romance also skirts the edge of insta-love, though Heyer mitigates this with such sharp writing that it’s easy to forgive.
