Captain America: Dark Designs

Richard Rohan nails Steve Rogers’ voice, but here’s the thing: that gravelly, earnest delivery feels even more compelling when it’s strained by panic. The real star of this audiobook is Petrucha’s script—he takes a premise that could’ve been campy and grounds it in genuine horror, turning a man’s own body into the villain. My only quibble is the pacing drags in the middle act, where exposition about the super-soldier serum’s mechanics slows the momentum. Still, Rohan sells every stutter of fear and forced calm, and the production team keeps the sound design tight—gunfire cracks in your ears, lab equipment hums ominously, and Steve’s ragged breathing is front and center. By the end, you’re left wondering: what’s worse, a villain you can fight… or the one you can’t escape inside your own skin?
