I devoured 'Chili Cookoff Murder' like a bowl of Emily's award-winning chili. Megan Trout's narration is the perfect seasoning, bringing a charming Southern twang to the characters and a playful tone to the dialogue. The pacing is spot-on, keeping the tension high as Emily navigates the web of suspects, each with their own motive and secret. I loved the cat-themed clues and the clever use of the annual cook-off as a backdrop for murder. However, I did find a few of the red herrings a tad too obvious. But that's a small price to pay for such an enjoyable listen. I'm already looking forward to the next installment in the Maplewood Mysteries series.
