About This Audiobook

Tracy Gregory’s *Chimera Summoner* is a high-stakes fantasy romp that refuses to play by the rules. This isn’t your granddad’s sword-and-sorcery—imagine a world where ancient deities bleed like mortals, where dinosaurs are the least of your problems, and where the line between hero and villain is drawn in molten god-fire. Gareth, our reluctant savior, is back in the steam-punked, smoke-choked ruins of Thot-Ankor, but the real adventure begins when he and his crew set out to awaken a planet-spanning weapon designed to wipe the cosmic slate clean. The stakes? Nothing less than the death of the gods themselves. Gregory’s prose crackles with wit and brutal imagery, making every battle sequence feel like a chess match where the board is on fire. The worldbuilding is dense but rewarding, packed with cultural oddities and technological weirdness that make you question what you thought you knew about fantasy. If you crave a story that’s equal parts pulp adventure and philosophical gut-punch, this is your audiobook.

At its core, *Chimera Summoner* is about legacy—what we inherit, what we destroy, and what we’re willing to become in the process. Gareth’s journey isn’t just about power; it’s about the weight of responsibility when the fate of the world rests on your shoulders (and the shoulders of your decidedly unusual crew). The pacing never lags, even as the stakes escalate from city-wide skirmishes to continent-shaking confrontations. Gregory balances action with quieter, introspective moments, giving the story emotional depth without sacrificing its razor-sharp edge. This is fantasy for readers who love their heroes flawed, their villains complex, and their worlds so vivid they feel like they’re leaking out of the speakers.

Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

Graham Mack’s narration of *Chimera Summoner* is the audiobook equivalent of a masterclass in voice acting. His Gareth is all grit and exhaustion, the perfect foil to the story’s explosive energy. Mack nails the tonal shifts—from weary cynicism to barking battle commands—without ever feeling like he’s performing. The supporting cast is just as strong, with each character’s voice distinct enough that I didn’t need to check the book to know who was who. The production is crisp, with just enough ambient rumble to sell the smoke-choked battlefields and eerie silence of the weapon’s dormant chambers. That said, there were a few moments where the volume in Mack’s performance dipped slightly during quieter passages, enough to pull me out of the immersion if I wasn’t fully focused. But the real magic here is how Mack sells the humor in Gregory’s razor-sharp dialogue. The banter between Gareth and his crew lands *hard*, and Mack’s delivery of a particularly absurd dinosaur-based insult had me laughing out loud in traffic. As for the story itself, I’ll admit I was skeptical about the blend of dinosaurs and gods at first, but Gregory pulls it off with aplomb. The action sequences are kinetic, with a fresh twist on the usual fantasy tropes—even the obligatory tavern brawl feels elevated by the revelation that the town’s basilisk problem might be the least of their worries. The slow reveal of the ancient weapon’s true purpose is expertly paced, though I wished we’d gotten a bit more insight into the gods themselves early on; their motivations feel tantalizingly vague until the final act, which might frustrate some listeners craving more depth. Still, the payoff is worth it. By the time the last god falls (literally), you’ll be left breathless and already mourning the fact that this isn’t a series yet.
