Completely Psmith

Graham Scott’s narration of *Completely Psmith* is the audiobook equivalent of a perfectly timed pratfall—you know it’s coming, but the sheer audacity of its execution still makes you snort-laugh. Scott’s voice is a chameleon, whether he’s channeling Psmith’s effortless insouciance (“I am not a suspicious man, but I wouldn’t put it past God to have a grudge against me”) or the flustered panic of a minor character who’s just realized Psmith has once again turned their life into a farce. The real magic happens in the dialogue: Scott’s timing is impeccable, stretching out the comedic pauses just enough to let Wodehouse’s absurdity breathe. By the time Psmith casually absconds with a valuable manuscript because he “prefers the company of ink over paper,” you’ll be convinced that chaos is just another form of charm. That said, the production occasionally trips over its own grandeur. The longer stories—particularly *Psmith in the City* and *Leave It to Psmith*—have a few moments where Scott’s energy dips slightly, as if he’s running low on the sheer joy that fuels the first half of the set. The sound quality is pristine, but the sheer length (35+ hours!) means that even the most devoted Wodehouse acolyte might need a palate cleanser of short fiction or a nice cup of tea around the 20-hour mark. Still, if you’ve ever wanted to spend a weekend in the company of the most delightfully useless man in literary history, this is the audiobook to take you there. Just don’t blame me if you start adopting Psmith’s habit of addressing everyone as “old thing.”
