The full-cast performance is the star here—particularly Gerald Hill as the cynical, seen-it-all admiral and Kymberley Cochrane’s razor-sharp turn as a subordinate who’s equal parts loyal and exasperated. Their chemistry sells the story’s core tension: the friction between myth and reality when a ‘legendary’ captain wakes up to find his reputation is both a weapon and a millstone. The production’s sound design is immersive without being showy. Subtle audio cues—like the distant *thud* of a missile impact or the static-laced distress calls—ground the story in a way pure narration couldn’t. That said, the pacing stumbles in the middle; a few strategy-heavy scenes drag when the dialogue leans too hard into exposition (a risk with any military sci-fi). And while Dance-Hooi’s protagonist is compellingly low-key, some side characters blur together in the audio mix, their voices lacking distinctiveness in crowded scenes. Still, the finale’s emotional punch lands hard, thanks to Yasmin Tuazon’s heartbreaking performance as a soldier facing impossible choices.
