She’s the kind of protagonist who’s always three steps ahead… except when she’s blind to her own vulnerabilities. The legal scenes are sharp enough to satisfy *Grisham* fans, but the thriller elements—Ella’s side hustle, the cat-and-mouse game with an unknown adversary—give it a *Gone Girl*-level unease. Erin Bennett’s narration is *exceptional*, but not flawless. Her Ella is magnetic: all clipped vowels and lawyerly precision in the office, then raw and jagged in private. The problem? A few secondary characters blur together—male voices, especially, lack distinctness, which made a key mid-book confrontation harder to follow. The production, though, is top-tier: no distracting edits, and the pacing mirrors the story��s escalation perfectly. My only real critique? The ending, while satisfying, wraps up a touch *too* neatly for a book that otherwise thrives on ambiguity. Still, if you’re craving a thriller where the real mystery isn’t *who* did it but *how far* the heroine will go, this delivers. Just don’t start it before bed—Ella’s bad decisions are *contagious*.
