Listening to 'The Best Friend' was like being on the edge of my seat in a packed courtroom, watching as Clint Broden navigates the treacherous waters of defending his friend. Ciulla's narration of Clint is spot-on, capturing his struggle between loyalty and duty, while Udall's portrayal of Anne, Clint's wife, adds a layer of emotional complexity. The pacing is excellent, with Mitzner masterfully doling out revelations and twists that had me hitting 'play' again and again. However, I found some of the secondary characters a bit one-dimensional, which was a minor letdown in an otherwise stellar audiobook. Overall, this is a must-listen for fans of legal thrillers who enjoy a healthy dose of moral ambiguity.
