Simone Kabst’s lead performance sets the tone with a voice that’s both authoritative and inviting, like a storyteller who’s seen some things but still believes in magic. The standout, though, is Thomas Nicolai’s rendition of *Babbitty Rabbitty and her Cackling Stump*—his delivery of the king’s desperate, increasingly unhinged decrees had me laughing out loud, while his shift into the witch’s dry, knowing narration was pure gold. That said, not every voice hits the mark. Vanida Karun’s performance of *The Fountain of Fair Fortune* feels rushed, her pacing verging on breathless in a way that undermines the story’s quieter, more reflective moments. And while the production values are solid—crisp audio, seamless transitions—the lack of any musical underscoring or sound design means some of the darker tales (*The Tale of the Three Brothers* in particular) lose a bit of their ominous edge. Still, this is a collection where the flaws only make the strengths clearer. If you’ve ever wished fairy tales could be a little more cynical, a little more human, and a whole lot more fun, this audiobook delivers.
