Their dynamic is the audiobook’s backbone, and the way Salmon (and Podehl) let their romance develop through in-game mechanics—shared loot, accidental team-ups, the quiet intimacy of healing each other mid-battle—feels fresh. That said, the pacing isn’t flawless. The middle act drags slightly during a subplot involving guild politics, and while the humor lands 90% of the time, a few jokes rely too heavily on gamer shorthand (looking at you, ‘aggro’ puns). The production is clean, though Podehl’s female voices occasionally veer into caricature—MrsKeller’s growl is iconic, but side characters like the elf NPC sound distractingly breathy. Still, these are quibbles. *Discordia* succeeds because it *gets* the loneliness behind the screen, the way online connections can feel more vital than real-life ones. The ending—without spoilers—isn’t tidy, but it’s *earned*, and Podehl’s final lines left me grinning like I’d just pulled off a perfect crit.
