Dragon Chained

Cris Dukehart’s narration sells this audiobook hard. Her delivery of the protagonist’s dry humor cracks me up, while her portrayal of the fae—equal parts seductive and insufferable—feels like listening to a mischievous cousin you can’t decide whether to hug or hex. The dragon, bless her, is a grumpy delight, and Dukehart nails the voice like she’s spent years eavesdropping on mythical creatures at the DMV. Story-wise, *Dragon Chained* wins with its snappy dialogue and a plot that’s less ‘save the world’ and more ‘save your weird little bookstore from becoming a fae nightclub.’ That said, the romance subplot teeters on insta-love at times, and the mystery of the aunt’s disappearance wraps up a tad too neatly for my taste. But if you’re here for banter, bananas worldbuilding, and a heroine who’s equal parts book nerd and accidental magician, this audiobook delivers. The production is crisp, the pacing zips along, and Dukehart’s performance ensures you’ll keep hitting play even when the story stumbles into cliché.
