Virtual Voice’s narration is serviceable but occasionally stumbles over Bazzar’s dense dialogue, particularly in scenes packed with Krozalian political jargon. Leann’s dry, sarcastic tone comes through well, but some supporting characters lack distinct vocal inflections, making it hard to track conversations in crowded scenes. That said, the pacing is relentless, with the production team nailing the audio’s tense, pulsing rhythm—like a spaceship’s engine hum that never quite lets up. The story’s biggest strength is its refusal to spoon-feed answers; Dolenta’s cargo remains a mystery until the final act, rewarding listeners who stay engaged. My one critique is the uneven worldbuilding: some factions feel underdeveloped, leaving gaps in what could’ve been a richer political backdrop. Still, the audiobook’s energy and Leann’s forced maturity make it a compelling listen, even if the narration occasionally lags behind the story’s momentum. If you crave YA sci-fi with teeth, this won’t disappoint—but don’t expect perfection.
