Joe Jameson’s narration is the audiobook’s secret weapon, and he wields it like a seasoned duelist. His Jorg is a venomous delight—equal parts charismatic rogue and self-loathing monarch, his voice dripping with the kind of charm that makes you root for him even as he carves a path of fire through his enemies. The production quality is top-tier, with Jameson’s vocal shifts (from honeyed menace to guttural rage) elevating Lawrence’s dialogue into something almost cinematic. That said, the story’s pacing stumbles in the middle act, where Jorg’s journey drags like a wounded beast through mud. Lawrence’s love for philosophical tangents sometimes feels indulgent, and the audiobook’s 15-hour runtime magnifies those lulls. Still, the payoff is worth the slog: the final act is a masterclass in tragic inevitability, and Jameson sells every syllable of it. If you’ve followed Jorg from the start, this finale will gut you.
