Every Move You Make

I’ve listened to my fair share of home-invasion thrillers, but *Every Move You Make* carved out a fresh kind of dread that lingered long after the credits rolled. Emma Gregory’s narration is the secret weapon here—her ability to shift from brittle, exhausted vulnerability to steely determination in a single sentence is nothing short of masterful. The opening act, where the protagonist recounts her captivity in fractured, almost detached fragments, is harrowing in the best way. Bee doesn’t waste time on exposition; she drops you into the panic immediately, and Gregory’s vocal inflections sell every second of it. That said, the audiobook isn’t without a few stumbles. The middle act, where the protagonist’s escape unfolds, drags slightly—Bee piles on too many secondary characters and red herrings, making the 12-hour runtime feel longer than it needs to be. And while Gregory’s performance is stellar, the production occasionally flattens the emotional peaks, especially during quieter, introspective moments where a little more dynamic range would’ve elevated the unease. Still, these are minor quibbles. The final third is so relentless, so morally complex, that it’s easy to forgive the pacing hiccups. By the time the credits roll, you’ll be questioning every door lock, every shadow in your own home. Not for the faint of heart, but unforgettable all the same.
