I went into *Falling for My Enemy* expecting yet another glossy, over-the-top rom-com where the leads hate each other for 80% of the book before falling into bed in the last 20%. Instead, Kingsley delivered something far more satisfying: a romance where the friction feels earned, the romance simmers instead of explodes, and the science—yes, *science*—actually matters. Stephen Dexter and Virginia Rose elevate the material with performances that should be studied in audiobook narrators’ masterclasses. Dexter’s Corban isn’t just smug; he’s *exhaustingly* logical, the kind of guy who’d debate the emotional ROI of kissing you. Rose, meanwhile, makes his foil, a botanist with a PhD and a personal vendetta, sound like she’s *one step ahead* of him at all times—which is exactly the dynamic the story needs. That said, the production isn’t flawless. The audio editing occasionally lets through the faintest hint of a page turn or a muffled breath, which jolted me out of a few pivotal scenes. And while the science backdrop is a fun hook, the chemistry occasionally veers into *too* sitcom-y territory—those dramatic pauses and drawn-out insults sometimes feel like they’re stretching for laughs rather than genuine tension. But these are minor quibbles in an otherwise addictive listen.
