I’ll admit, I was skeptical going into *Fates*—time-travel romance is a crowded genre, and I’ve heard my fill of “star-crossed lovers” tropes. But *Fates* surprised me by making the mythological framework feel urgent rather than decorative. The audiobook’s narration, handled by Virtual Voice, was a standout: their pacing matched the story’s intensity, and the voice shifts for different characters (especially the Fates) added a layer of depth that kept me engaged through even the denser mythological explanations. Isolde’s stubbornness and Eamon’s moral gray areas made them compelling leads, and the way Mason wove in fate’s cruel irony kept me hooked. That said, the middle act dragged slightly—the mythological detours, while cool, sometimes felt like a reprieve from the actual plot rather than a natural extension of it. And while Virtual Voice’s performance was strong overall, a few of the side characters’ voices blended together a bit, making it hard to differentiate them in group scenes. Still, these quibbles didn’t ruin the experience; *Fates* is a smart, addictive listen for fans of romance that refuses to play by the rules. It’s the kind of story that lingers long after the last chapter, leaving you questioning whether love or defiance wins in the end.
