The woman who ensnares him, Catherine, isn’t a femme fatale so much as a force of nature; she doesn’t seduce Marcus, she *exposes* him, and the way Tarino writes their dynamic made me squirm in my seat. My main critique? The middle act sags slightly, with too many scenes of Marcus just staring at his hands or praying in empty churches. A tighter edit could’ve made the payoff land harder. Still, by the final act, the audiobook had me gripping my phone like it was Marcus’s rosary beads, and that’s rare for a thriller.
