That’s the kind of consequence-driven storytelling I crave in fantasy, and Quinn balances it with humor that never feels forced. Now, the narration: Kane and Kelly are a dynamic duo. Kane’s delivery of Calon’s internal monologue—equal parts exasperation and dark humor—keeps the modern voice fresh, while Kelly’s deeper tones for the supporting cast add weight to the worldbuilding. My only gripe? The pacing stumbles slightly in the middle during a prolonged political subplot that drags compared to the snappy opening.
