That’s the kind of specificity this production excels at. The pacing, though, is where opinions might diverge. The first half is *deliberate*, almost painfully so, lingering on Laurel’s mundane life (homework, friend drama) as a counterpoint to the supernatural stakes. It’s a bold choice—one that pays off in the back half when the tension snaps—but I can see impatient listeners checking out before the payoff. And while Siegfried’s Tamani is electric, her delivery of the human love interest, David, occasionally veers into *too* earnest, making their scenes feel like a PSA for Healthy Relationships™ compared to the messy, magnetic pull of Laurel and Tamani. Still, the audiobook’s strength lies in its refusal to tidy up the edges.
