I went into *Lightning & Thunder* expecting another Percy Jackson retread, but Raasch’s voice is entirely its own—equal parts mythology buff and romcom junkie. The narration (though we don’t know the performer) nails the tonal whiplash between snarky arrogance and reluctant heroism, especially in Pollux’s scenes. Rayna’s chapters are a delight, too; her blend of charm and chaos mirrors Thor’s mythic legacy without ever feeling like a cheap imitation. The story’s biggest strength is its pacing: the audiobook zips from banter to high-stakes battles without losing momentum, and the chemistry between Pollux and Rayna sells the emotional beats. That said, the worldbuilding occasionally trips over itself—why, exactly, do the gods’ heirs need to hide in plain sight?—and the love interest’s arc feels underbaked compared to the rest.
