Listening to Michael J. Fox narrate 'Lucky Man' is like having a deeply personal conversation with an old friend who happens to be a cultural icon. His voice—familiar from decades on screen—brings an immediacy that text alone couldn’t convey. When he recounts collapsing on a tennis court or breaking down after lying to his kids about his condition, the rawness is palpable. The humor lands because it feels authentic, never forced, and his comic timing—honed from years on 'Family Ties' and 'Back to the Future'—shines even in the darkest moments. I particularly appreciated how he doesn’t shy from the awkwardness of celebrity, like being recognized mid-tremor or having fans project their hopes onto him. That said, the audiobook’s pacing occasionally drags in the middle, especially during some of the advocacy work sections, which feel more dutiful than dynamic. And while Fox’s humility is admirable, at times it borders on understatement—moments begging for deeper introspection pass by too quickly. Still, these are minor flaws in an otherwise exceptional listen. The production quality is crisp, with no distracting effects, allowing Fox’s storytelling to take full focus.
