I binge-listened to *Marriage & Malice* over a weekend, and my ears are still ringing with the aftershocks of James Joseph’s narration. His voice is a velvety menace when he embodies the mob prince—every syllable drips with entitlement and danger, like a man who’s never learned the word ‘no.’ Meg Sylvan, voicing the ballerina heroine, nails the duality of her character: fragile yet ferocious, her voice softening into despair one moment and slicing into defiance the next. The production is top-tier, with a subtle audio palette that cues you to shift between the glittering stages of Lincoln Center and the shadowy backrooms of the Cosa Nostra. That said, the story’s third act stumbles a bit—some resolutions feel rushed, as if Wolfe prioritized a swoon-worthy ending over the meticulous payoff the earlier chapters earned. And while the steam is off-the-charts, the emotional core occasionally gets lost in the operatic melodrama. Still, these are minor quibbles in an otherwise delectable listening experience. If you’re here for a romance that doesn’t flinch from pain or passion, this audiobook will ruin you—in the best way.
