Our heroine isn’t just playing hard to get; she’s playing it smart, and her defiance makes Chase’s pursuit feel earned, not entitled. The narration duo of Wen Ross and Kai Kennicott deserves applause. Ross nails the protagonist’s inner sarcasm, especially in her solo chapters where she’s venting to herself or her sister. Her timing with the humor is impeccable, making even the sappier moments feel fresh. Kennicott, meanwhile, gives Chase a presence that’s equal parts charm and irritation—think Idris Elba with a side of arrogance. The production is crisp, with subtle soundscapes that enhance emotional beats without overpowering the dialogue. That said, the middle act drags a bit as Chase’s persistence veers into stalker-adjacent territory, and the resolution wraps up a little too neatly for my taste. Still, the payoff is so satisfying that I willingly forgave the pacing hiccups. If you love romance with a backbone—and narrators who make you laugh out loud—this audiobook is a steal.
