I’ll be honest—I went into *Mythos University* expecting another *Percy Jackson* retread, but what I got was closer to *Black Hawk Down* meets *The Call of Cthulhu*, with a side of *Community*’s meta humor. The premise is deceptively simple: after the Revelation, the world’s governments scramble to train a new generation of "Mythos Operatives" to fight back against the horrors now lurking in plain sight. But Moria leans hard into the logistical nightmare of it all—imagine trying to teach ballistics while your TA might be a doppelgänger, or cramming for exams when your roommate keeps turning into a shapeless mass of eyes. It’s darkly funny, brutally efficient storytelling, and the audiobook’s dual narration sells it perfectly. Kane’s performance as the jaded protagonist, Cass, crackles with the kind of dry wit that makes you root for her even when she’s making terrible choices. Brock, meanwhile, voices the university’s faculty with a chilling blend of academic detachment and something far more sinister. His delivery of the dean’s pep talks—equal parts motivational speaker and cult leader—is worth the price of admission alone. That said, this isn’t a flawless listen. The pacing in *Book 2* stumbles a bit under the weight of its own lore, with a mid-section that feels like a 10-hour lecture on Mythos taxonomy (complete with enough acronyms to make a Pentagon official weep). And while the gory, tactical combat scenes are visceral and well-directed, the audio mixing occasionally falters—some of the louder action sequences get muddy, forcing you to rewinds to catch critical details. Still, these are minor gripes in an otherwise gripping production. What *Mythos University* lacks in polish, it makes up for in sheer, unapologetic ambition. It’s the rare fantasy that feels like it’s been lived in, not just imagined—where the magic system is less about sparkly wands and more about survival rates and PTSD.
