The narrative doesn’t waste time on buildup; it dives straight into the negotiation, and the lack of drawn-out foreplay makes the eventual payoff hit harder. My only gripe? The ending feels abrupt, as if Pearl assumed we’d fill in the blanks ourselves, but that’s a minor quibble in an otherwise tightly constructed story.
