Sara Ney’s writing is razor-edged, packing humor and tension into every scene. Piper’s stubbornness and Jace’s infuriating confidence make for a push-pull that’s as frustrating as it is addictive. The sex scenes are steamy but tastefully done, and the banter? Chef’s kiss. The pacing never drags, though I’ll admit the middle section meanders slightly as Piper hammers out business logistics—something that’s harder to gloss over in audio than on the page. Felicity Cross and Alexander Cendese are the dream team here. Cross’s Piper is all fire and grit, her snark dialed to eleven, while Cendese’s Jace is the kind of smug that makes you want to both kiss and slap him.
