About This Audiobook

Pirate Witch isn’t just another paranormal romance—it’s a feral, blood-stained fable where survival demands more than magic. The Eagle of Galmere has spent centuries twisting mortality into a grotesque empire, hunting the supernatural to brew her Mortal Cure while her human queen subjects remain oblivious. Enter Veyla, a pirate witch who’s spent a decade as both prisoner and poison-maker in the Eagle’s floating fortress, biding her time until vengeance cracks the world open. When Veyla’s forbidden love for a captured scholar ignites a rebellion, the story detonates into a storm of curses, betrayals, and reluctant alliances that redefine power. Marie Mistry delivers a world where magic is as brutal as it is beautiful, and love is a weapon no one sees coming—until it’s too late. The worldbuilding is lush but never indulgent, the stakes are viscerally personal, and the moral grays run deeper than most paranormal romances dare to dig. Fans of morally complex witches and slow-burn revenge will find their hearts (and maybe their morals) ravaged here.

Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

I started Pirate Witch expecting another brooding supernatural romance, but Mistry’s world gutted me before the first chapter ended. The Eagle of Galmere isn’t just a villain—she’s a grotesque caricature of eternal hunger, and her oppression feels tactile, from the clink of chains in the hold to the metallic tang of blood in the air. Veyla’s rage is the kind that lingers in your bones; she’s not a heroine waiting to be saved, but a woman who’s already sharpening her knives while the men beside her scramble to keep up. The romance unfolds like a blade slowly unsheathed—tense, inevitable, and dangerous—but it never overshadows the real heart of the story: a rebellion that’s less about freedom and more about who gets to define justice when the system is rotten to the core. The narration by Bridget and Jake Bordeaux is electric; their voices shift seamlessly between gravelly pirates, aristocratic scholars, and creatures that slither out of legends, and their chemistry sells the forbidden love at the story’s core. That said, the middle act drags a bit under the weight of political maneuvering, and the scholar’s sudden devotion to Veyla felt too convenient—like the plot needed a shortcut instead of earning the emotional payoff. Still, the production is stellar, with sound design that immerses you in the Eagle’s floating dungeon, and the third act delivers a gut-punch ending that left me breathless. If you want a romance that burns hotter than the magic it’s built on, this is your audiobook.
