I’ll admit, I approached *Please Tell Me* with skepticism—kidnapped-child plots can so easily veer into exploitation or cliché. But Omer sidesteps both by making the real mystery *what happens next*. The first act hooks you with the escape, but the genius is in how the story morphs: it’s less about hunting the kidnapper and more about the psychological fallout for the girl, her therapist, and the system that failed her. Abby Mullen isn’t a detective; she’s a psychologist out of her depth, and Cox’s narration sells that vulnerability. Her voice quavers just enough when Abby’s professional mask slips, and her portrayal of the child—flat, almost robotic in places—is hauntingly effective. I found myself rewinding certain scenes just to catch the subtext in her delivery. That said, the pacing isn’t flawless. The middle act drags slightly as Abby untangles bureaucratic red tape, and one subplot involving a secondary character feels undercooked, like Omer couldn’t decide whether to lean into conspiracy or character study. The production is otherwise impeccable, though—Cox’s breathing during tense pauses becomes a character itself, and the lack of background music forces you to sit with the discomfort. The ending, too, will divide listeners: it’s ambiguous in a way that feels earned, but if you crave neat resolutions, you’ll leave frustrated. For me, though, that ambiguity was the point. This isn’t a thriller about answers; it’s about the questions that linger long after the last word.
