About This Audiobook

Quantum Space kicks off with a bang, literally, as a Soyuz capsule disappears mid-reentry, setting the stage for an extraterrestrial mystery that's equal parts scientific intrigue and philosophical pondering. Douglas Phillips' debut novel is a breath of fresh air in the first contact subgenre, eschewing the typical alien invasion tropes for a more nuanced exploration of what happens when two civilizations collide. Kirby Heyborne's narration is the cherry on top, bringing a sense of urgency and wonder to the story that's impossible to resist.

Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

As someone who's heard their fair share of first contact stories, I was pleasantly surprised by Quantum Space. The pacing is spot-on, balancing moments of high-stakes tension with quieter, more contemplative scenes that allow the characters and their new alien counterparts to develop. Heyborne's narration is a standout feature, his ability to convey both the awe and trepidation of the human characters as they grapple with the implications of their encounter making the listening experience all the more immersive. My only critique is that some of the scientific jargon can feel a bit info-dumpy at times, but Phillips' clear passion for the subject matter makes it easy to forgive. Overall, Quantum Space is a must-listen for anyone looking for a thought-provoking, engaging take on the first contact trope.
