Rebound: A Magical Library LitRPG Adventure

I went into *Rebound* expecting another LitRPG with a familiar grind-and-level-up premise, but K.T. Hanna’s novel shattered that expectation with its inventive premise and morally complex world. The library isn’t just a setting—it’s a character, a sentient entity with its own rules, laws, and loopholes. Our protagonist, a scholar-turned-wanderer, is a fantastic guide: flawed, witty, and refreshingly human in a genre often bogged down by power fantasy tropes. The magic system is the star here, blending library science with fantasy in a way that feels fresh yet grounded. The pacing is relentless, but never overwhelming, thanks to Hanna’s knack for balancing action with introspection. My one quibble? The mid-section drags slightly as the protagonist navigates bureaucratic hurdles, though even that serves the larger narrative about the red tape of magic. Andrea Parsneau’s narration is the cherry on top. She nails the protagonist’s cynical charm, the dry humor of the library’s AI-like systems, and even the eerie cadence of the magical tomes. Her vocal range is impressive, shifting from the protagonist’s snarky internal monologue to the ominous whispers of a cursed book without missing a beat. The production quality is stellar—crisp audio, no distracting background noise, and just enough sound design to make the library feel alive. My only critique? The climactic battle sequences could’ve benefited from more dynamic pacing in the narration to match the on-page intensity. But that’s a minor nitpick in an otherwise stellar listening experience. If you love stories where the setting is as much a villain as the antagonists, *Rebound* is a must-listen.
