I went into *Numbers* expecting a dry recitation of math facts—what I got was a masterclass in storytelling disguised as a lecture. Simon Singh’s own narration is delightfully conversational, like a brilliant friend pulling you into a barstool debate about the nature of infinity. The real magic, though, lives in the ensemble. Sylvia Nasar’s segment on Gödel’s theorem is a masterstroke of clarity, while Paul Hoffman’s take on Paul Erdős’ eccentric genius feels like a eulogy delivered by a stand-up comic. My only quibble: the production occasionally zooms through complex proofs at a pace that assumes your brain is already a supercomputer. Pauses between concepts would’ve helped, but even that feels like a minor betrayal—this audiobook is just that good. The standout, though, is Marcus du Sautoy’s explanation of group theory, which somehow makes symmetry feel like a crime thriller. By the end of the Monty Hall problem, I was frantically flipping coins in my head, convinced I’d cracked the code.
