Sins Of The Stranded

I went into *Sins of the Stranded* expecting a twisty island thriller, but Sabrina Wade delivered something far more unsettling—a story that burrows under your skin and refuses to let go. Virtual Voice’s narration is a standout, shifting seamlessly between the seven strangers’ perspectives with enough vocal tics to make each feel distinct without relying on gimmicks. The voice actor nails the creeping dread, especially in scenes where the island’s secrets start to surface; their delivery of a particularly chilling line about ‘the things that crawl when the tide is low’ sent a shiver down my spine. That said, the ending felt a tad abrupt—I wanted more closure on a few threads, even if it meant a few extra minutes of runtime. Pacing is tight, but the real strength here is Wade’s ability to make the mundane terrifying. A dinner table conversation becomes a minefield when a character casually mentions they ‘always keep a knife in their boot.’ The audiobook’s sound design deserves praise too; the way it uses silence and sudden noises to mimic the characters’ paranoia is brilliant. My only real critique? The group’s dynamics occasionally veer into caricature (looking at you, ‘shady priest’ trope), but the sheer momentum of the story forgives those stumbles. If you love your thrillers with a side of existential dread and a dash of gothic horror, this is your next obsession.
