De Giovanni’s Naples isn’t postcard-pretty; it’s a living, breathing entity, sweaty and unapologetic, and Servillo’s narration *embodies* that. His delivery is masterful: the way he lingers on certain phrases, like he’s savoring a bitter espresso, or clips others short, mimicking Ricciardi’s impatience. The story itself unfolds like a slow unraveling—less about whodunit (though the mystery is solid) and more about *why* it matters in a city where the past never stays buried. That said, the pacing won’t be for everyone. The middle act meanders a bit, indulging in atmospheric detours that, while rich, occasionally test patience. And while Servillo’s performance is stellar, his Ricciardi sometimes veers *too* close to monotone in introspective moments—though that might be intentional, given the character’s emotional detachment. The production is otherwise flawless: no distracting edits, just clean audio that lets the story (and Naples) take center stage. If you’re craving a mystery with soul—one where the setting is as compelling as the crime—this is your next listen.
