About This Audiobook

*Stormcaller* isn’t just another time-loop fantasy—it’s a razor-sharp, emotionally charged sprint through a world where victory tastes like ash because the clock keeps rewinding. Peter J. Lee takes the familiar premise of reliving the same battle and twists it into something brutal and tender, where every reset isn’t just a tactical puzzle but a slow unraveling of his protagonists’ souls. Tal and Dagmar’s dynamic crackles with weary camaraderie, their dialogue laced with the kind of dark humor that only comes from people who’ve stared down oblivion one too many times.

Travis Baldree’s narration is a masterclass in understated intensity. He doesn’t *perform* the characters so much as *inhabit* them—his Tal is a storm of repressed fury, his Dagmar a dry, world-weary foil, and the secondary cast pulses with distinct life. The audio production leans into the claustrophobia of the loop, using subtle shifts in tone and pacing to make each reset feel like a gut-punch rather than a gimmick. This isn’t a book about outsmarting time; it’s about what happens when time outsmarts *you*.

Editor's Review ★★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

I’ll admit, I groaned when I heard *Stormcaller* was another time-loop story—until about 20 minutes in, when Lee’s writing and Baldree’s narration gutted me. This isn’t *Edge of Tomorrow* with magic; it’s a psychological grind where the real enemy isn’t the monsters or the reset, but the slow erosion of hope. The way Lee structures the loops is brilliant: instead of repetitive slog, each iteration peels back another layer of Tal’s trauma or Dagmar’s quiet desperation. The combat scenes are visceral, but the quiet moments—like when Tal tries (and fails) to explain the loop to a doomed ally—hit harder. Baldree’s performance is *almost* flawless. His pacing is impeccable, ratcheting up tension without rushing the emotional beats, and his voice for the villainous Stormcaller is chillingly smooth. My only critique? A few of the female characters’ voices blur together in the midrange, which occasionally made it hard to track side characters in chaotic scenes. And while the ending lands with emotional weight, the final act’s time-jump epilogue feels slightly rushed compared to the meticulous buildup. Still, this is one of the few audiobooks I’ve immediately restarted after finishing—partly to catch the foreshadowing I missed, partly because I just wasn’t ready to leave these characters behind.
