The Academy (A LitRPG Progression Adventure)

I went in expecting another generic power fantasy, but *The Academy* shredded my expectations like a demonic chainsaw. Sylvester Frost’s narration is the secret weapon here—his voice alone sells every sinister smirk and explosive spell. There’s a moment midway through where he channels a cult leader’s hypnotic drawl that made my spine tingle, and I had to pause to remind myself I wasn’t under a compulsion spell. Ellory Lane’s contributions are more subtle but no less impactful; her delivery of the protagonist’s love interest is so razor-sharp with venom that I audibly gasped at the betrayal. That said, the pacing stumbles in the later acts when the author leans too hard into “level-up checklist” exposition. Some power upgrades drone on like a YouTube tutorial, and the production’s occasional volume jumps between dialogue and sound effects grated after hour two. Still, the sheer audacity of a LitRPG where the protagonist’s sect literally *feeds on despair* made up for the bumps. By the 12-hour mark, I was sold—and not just because Frost’s voice had me convinced I’d sold my soul for his narration.
