I went into *The Belial End* expecting another bloated supernatural battle royale, but Brady subverts the genre with surgical precision. Delaney isn’t a chosen one—she’s a woman who’s lost everything and is running on fumes, which makes her victories (and failures) feel earned, not manufactured. The audiobook’s Virtual Voice narrator does wonders with Brady’s snappy dialogue, especially during the high-octane exchanges between Delaney and her sarcastic, tech-savvy ally. The synthetic voice occasionally flattens the emotional weight of quieter moments—like Delaney’s grief over lost allies—reducing some scenes to mere plot progression rather than visceral punch. That said, the production is otherwise flawless: sound mix is clean, pacing is relentless, and the narration never lingers on boring exposition. My biggest gripe? The lore-heavy sections sometimes assume you’ve read the entire series, leaving newcomers scrambling to Google Belial’s backstory mid-listening. Still, by the final act, when the stakes hit home, I was hooked—this isn’t just another “save the world” thriller, it’s a story about the cost of survival when the apocalypse refuses to die.
