Dinniman’s writing is a rare beast: a story that’s both brutally violent and genuinely hilarious, where the humor isn’t just sprinkled in but *baked into the world’s DNA*. The protagonist, a self-aware everyman thrust into a meat grinder of a plot, feels like if *The Belcher* from *Dungeons & Dragons* had a lovechild with *Ash Williams*—equal parts sarcastic, resourceful, and terrifyingly competent when pushed. Jeff Hays’ narration is the secret weapon here. He doesn’t just read the book; he *performs* it, with a range that makes you forget it’s a solo act. His ability to switch between manic energy and deadpan delivery sells the tonal whiplash—one second you’re gut-laughing at a character’s snark, the next you’re gripping your headphones as a battle turns visceral. My only critique? The sheer *volume* of side characters can make it hard to track who’s who in the chaos (a minor script issue, not Hays’ fault).
