About This Audiobook

Milo Caro has spent years watching Colton Mathews zoom through life like a golden retriever who’s just discovered fireworks—messy, loud, and impossible to ignore. Now the clock on their childhood friendship is ticking toward a future Milo’s already scripted: casual texts, inside jokes, and Colton calling her ‘kid’ despite her being twenty-six with a job, an apartment, and a scathing Spotify playlist. When a spontaneous road trip with a detour through Vegas forces Milo to confront the smirk that’s haunted her since puberty, Rachel Van Dyken turns the trope of the misunderstood heroine into a punchy, self-aware rom-com with an edge. Expect late-night diner meltdowns, questionable karaoke choices, and a hero who’s equal parts infuriating and irresistible—think Ryan Gosling if he never left the frat house, but with better grooming and zero chill.

This audiobook shines because Nick Podehl and Amy McFadden treat Milo’s internal monologue like a stand-up special—sharp, hilarious, and delivered with enough sass to make even the most stoic listener snort-laugh. The chemistry between the narrators crackles when the dialogue flips from playful banter to razor-edged sarcasm, and the production team wisely lets the humor breathe without over-polishing the rawness of Milo’s emotional breakdowns. If you’ve ever wanted a romance that feels like laughing at a friend’s disastrous Tinder stories while secretly rooting for their happily-ever-after, this is your next binge.

AudioBook Atlas

I started this audiobook convinced I’d roll my eyes at another ‘best-friend’s brother’ plot, but Van Dyken’s snappy dialogue and Milo’s biting wit kept me hooked from the opening credits. Nick Podehl nails the rhythm of Milo’s sarcasm—his delivery of lines like ‘I’m not crying, you’re crying’ is so perfectly timed I wanted to high-five him. Amy McFadden’s Colton is a whole vibe: all swagger and zero self-awareness, which should be grating but somehow feels aspirational. The only hiccup is the Vegas detour, which throws the pacing off just enough to make the middle feel like a detour through a casino buffet—overwhelming and a bit greasy. What works best is how the story never lets Milo’s ambition or independence get overshadowed by the romance; she’s genuinely interesting outside of the love story, and that’s rare. The audiobook’s pacing stumbles slightly during the second act’s emotional moments—some of the quieter confessions feel rushed compared to the surrounding banter—but overall the production is a masterclass in making humor land without smothering the heart beneath it. If you’re craving a romance that respects your intelligence while still letting you giggle like a teenager, hit play. Just maybe don’t listen during your commute unless you want to explain to your Uber driver why you’re laughing at a fictional guy’s ‘smolder’ for twenty minutes.
