That said, the narration *does* struggle with emotional nuance in flashbacks—some of Brie’s memories of her late mother felt oddly detached, as if the algorithm couldn’t quite grasp grief. The story’s pacing is masterful: the first half lulls you into a false sense of domestic unease (think *Gone Girl*’s slow simmer, not *The Girl on the Train*’s frantic sprint), while the second half detonates with revelations that feel earned, not contrived.
