The Faerie Games: The Complete Series

Having devoured 'The Faerie Games' series years ago, I revisited it as an audiobook, captivated once again by Michelle Madow's intricate fantasy world and Selena's compelling journey. Patricia Santomasso's narration is truly excellent, perfectly capturing the gravity of Selena's non-magical status, the tension of the games, and the emotional weight of her experiences. Her ability to differentiate the numerous characters, especially the female ones often sidelined in fantasy, adds tremendous depth and makes the audiobook experience immersive. The story grips from the outset, blending high-stakes adventure with moments of quiet introspection for Selena, who proves that magic isn't the only path to strength. The pacing generally works well, keeping the listener engaged through the long, complex hours of the audiobook. My only minor critique is that some of the intricate political elements within Avalon could sometimes have been streamlined to maintain the relentless forward momentum, and while Selena's character arc is strong, some other supporting characters feel slightly underdeveloped given the scope. Overall, Santomasso's performance elevates the material, making this a must-listen for fans of dark fantasy and compelling female-led narratives.
