I devoured The Hero Game like a superhero hungry for its first power-up. The story is a blast, but it's Robin Shay's narration that truly sets it apart. He nails Jack's voice, capturing the essence of a relatable everyman suddenly thrust into extraordinary circumstances. Shay's pacing is spot-on, ratcheting up tension during action sequences and drawing out the humor in Aird's clever dialogue. The production is clean and engaging, with sound effects that enhance the listening experience without feeling gimmicky. My only critique? I wish there was more of the supporting cast; they're as intriguing as Jack, and I can't wait to see more of them. But that's a small complaint in an audiobook that's otherwise a fantastic, fun listen.
