The Mystery of Montague Morgan

Sam Dewhurst-Phillips nails the narration, adopting a clipped, upper-class British accent that’s perfect for the setting and elevates the absurdity of a talking cat and dog solving crimes. His delivery of Heathcliff’s dry one-liners is pitch-perfect, and he gives Monty the sass of a spoiled aristocrat and Biscuit the earnestness of a well-meaning underdog (literally). The pacing is brisk, though the final act feels slightly rushed, leaving a few plot threads dangling like an unfinished knitting project. The production is crisp, with no noticeable background noise, and the chapter transitions are seamless, making it easy to pick up where you left off—ideal for binge-listening. My only real critique is that the supporting cast, while well-done, occasionally blends together, and the village dynamics could use more distinct voices to avoid listener fatigue. That said, the chemistry between the human and animal characters is so engaging that it’s easy to overlook these minor flaws. The audiobook clocks in at just over eight hours, and I burned through it in two sittings, guilt-free.
