About This Audiobook

Jack London's 'The Scarlet Plague' offers a stark, gripping glimpse into a world ravaged by a mysterious pandemic. Narrated with gritty intensity by Drew Ariana, this audiobook is a distinctive blend of survival tale and social commentary. Ariana's performance brings out the raw, visceral nature of London's prose, making each word count in this lean, 2-hour listen. Unlike other post-apocalyptic narratives, 'The Scarlet Plague' focuses more on societal collapse and its aftermath, rather than the lead-up to the catastrophe. It's a thought-provoking, haunting exploration of what could be, if not for the thin veneer of civilization.

Editor's Review ★★★☆

AudioBook Atlas

I was drawn to 'The Scarlet Plague' by its promise of a world turned upside down, and it delivered in spades. Drew Ariana's narration is a standout feature, capturing the grim, unyielding tone of London's writing. He imbues each character with a distinct voice, from the weary, philosophical James Howard to the brutal, cunning 'wolf' men. The pacing is taut, never lingering too long on descriptions, and the production is clean and unobtrusive. My only critique is that some of the more philosophical passages could have been teased out a bit more, as they sometimes feel rushed. Overall, though, 'The Scarlet Plague' is a chilling, compelling listen that will stay with you long after the final words.
