I'll admit, I was intimidated by the prospect of diving into The Thousandfold Thought - 17 hours is a significant commitment, and I'd heard that Bakker's writing could be dense and challenging. But from the opening minutes, I was hooked. David DeVries' narration is excellent, his steady pace and serious tone drawing me into the world of Eärwa. The story itself is complex and multifaceted, with a large cast of characters and a deep, richly detailed world. At times, the pacing can be slow, and some listeners may find the philosophical discussions and intricate plotting overwhelming. However, for fans of epic fantasy, The Thousandfold Thought is a must-listen. One critique I do have is that the supporting characters can feel somewhat one-dimensional at times, which can make it difficult to become fully invested in their stories. Additionally, the audiobook's production quality is generally high, although there are a few moments where the sound levels can be slightly uneven.
