The story’s strength lies in its refusal to coddle the reader—every revelation feels earned, even when the pacing occasionally drags in the middle third. The protagonist’s voice (narrated with eerie detachment) makes his paranoia infectious; by the time you realize you’re questioning *your* sanity alongside him, it’s too late to pause. Virtual Voice’s performance deserves special praise—there’s no overacting, no melodrama, just a chilling consistency that makes the horror feel eerily plausible. That said, the final act’s resolution felt a touch too tidy for my taste, as if the author wanted to tie up loose ends rather than let the dread linger. Still, the audiobook’s production elevates the material: the subtle use of silence, the way footsteps echo in empty rooms, and the occasional distortion in the protagonist’s voice when he’s lying all work in service of the tension.
