She doesn’t just voice Khalani—she embodies her: tight-lipped, wary, trembling with suppressed rage and fragile hope. Beattie’s vocal restraint in early chapters slowly cracks open as Khalani confronts the truth, and that evolution is masterfully handled. The production leans into atmospheric detail—subtle echoes in corridor scenes, distant wildlife rustles during surface treks—making the audiobook feel tactile. That said, the middle section drags slightly; a few too many encounters with mutated flora repeat similar beats. Also, while the ensemble cast is strong, secondary characters sometimes blur together vocally, relying too much on context to distinguish them. Still, the final act delivers a gut punch of revelation and resolve that more than compensates. If you love audiobooks where voice and environment are as critical as plot, this one’s essential listening.
