Now, the narration: Davina Porter is *the* reason to experience this as an audiobook. Her performance is understated but devastating—she doesn’t *act* Hero so much as *become* her, from the dry sarcasm to the moments of quiet devastation. The production is flawless, with no jarring edits or volume shifts, but I’ll nitpick two things: First, the pacing drags slightly in the middle during a subplot involving Hero’s aristocratic connections (interesting, but less urgent than the core mystery).
